Fallen Trees Recording Studio - Mount Airy, NC

Fallen Trees Recording Stuido is a ground up facility located in beautiful Mount Airy, NC. (Mount Airy is the birthplace and hometown of Andy Griffith, so many people refer to the town by the fictional TV name Mayberry, NC.)

The studio's Reflection Free Zone control room features an API 1608 II all discrete analog console filled with API pres and EQs. Main monitors are Guzauski-Swist GS3b's with active 3-way crossovers and amplifiers.

The tuned rear wall features Brett Acoustics Slatffusors, which diffuse mid and high frequencies while allowing low frequencies to pass through to be treated by the deeper layers of back wall trapping.

The live front end is great for recording in the control room, while still preventing early reflections from altering the critical monitoring accuracy. Outboard gear includes pieces by Universal Audio, Hairball, Empirical Labs, and Alesis.

The live room treatments are diffusive at mid and high frequencies and absorptive at low frequencies, creating a controlled yet lively ambience for recording drums and other instruments. Natural light flows in through the Isolation booths, and there are good sight-lines between all of the playing spaces and the control room.

Musical instruments and amps include an upright piano, Wurlitzer electric piano, Hammond A-100 with Leslie 122 cabinet, Precision bass, Stratocaster, Telecaster, Jazzmaster, Jaguar, Mustang, Les Paul, Martin Acoustic, Taylor Acoustic, Republic resonator guitar, Epiphone hollow body, Gretsch 5-pc. drum kit, Vox AC-15, Fender Champ, Marshall C5 combo, and an Ampeg SVT bass amp.

The studio also has 4 bedrooms for visiting bands as well as a large lounge and kitchen area. Specialty acoustical construction and installation was performed by by Brett Acoustics. Cabling layout and consulting was provided by Thom Canova of Canova Audio. Audio and electrical grounding and filtering protocols by Howie Hoyt of Pro Audio Engineering.
