RAREFIED RECORDING
San Diego, CA

Rarefied Recording is a commercial recording studio located in San Diego, CA, just minutes from downtown in the North Park area. This was a ground-up WLDG design, in the local traditional Spanish Colonial style.

The RFZ control room features an extensive diffusor built from RPG components. The console is a Toft ATB-32a, housed in a custom desk built by Todd Beeten of Sound Construction. Dynaudio M3A bi-amplified main monitors are powered by Bryston amps and crossovers. The nearfields are Focal Solo 6BEs. Outboard includes gear by Empirical Labs, Universal Audio, Great River, Chandler, Focusrite, Neve, Demeter, John Hardy, Joe Meek, etc.

The tracking room features a window wall, as well as two walls of reversible biffusors, diffusive on one side and absorptive on the other, to give the room as much acoustic flexibility as possible.

This moderately sized studio performs as well as many larger studios, and this is the type of facility that more of our clients are asking for these days, given the economic state of the recording industry.

The acoustical building for this project was done by Brett Acoustics, with technical wiring by Thorn Canova Audio.
